Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is mandatory; additional college coursework in the human services sector is advantageous; a minimum of two years of experience in administrative support, clerical duties, or direct customer service within social services or a related field is essential (three years preferred); or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in local government or public administration is preferred. Candidates should exhibit strong organizational skills, effective oral and written communication, and exceptional customer service abilities, along with professional interpersonal skills suitable for teamwork. Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, electronic records management, and basic spreadsheet functions is required. Familiarity with electronic database systems is a plus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, effective time management skills, and the capacity to work accurately under pressure while compiling and reviewing data from various systems. Proficiency in Spanish, both spoken and written, is preferred. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required. According to the Virginia DMV point system, the record must not show six or more demerit points within the last twenty-four months, nor any major violations totaling six demerit points within the last thirty-six months. Applicants with out-of-state driving records must obtain and present these records at the time of the interview, showing at least three years of history and dated within thirty days of the interview. Pre-employment drug screening, an FBI criminal background check, and verification of education or degrees are mandatory.

Responsibilities

The role involves various responsibilities to assist the Administration and Finance Division of the Department. Key tasks include supporting the daily operations of the Agency, maintaining clear communication with both internal and external stakeholders, managing supply orders and inventory, scanning documents, faxing, filing, and providing customer service in a call center or front desk environment. Data entry tasks may involve handling confidential and sensitive information, processing work orders, and addressing operational issues as they arise. The position requires interaction with a diverse clientele from the surrounding areas. All employees are expected to participate in an Emergency Shelter Team, responding to shelter duties when activated. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
