About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Haematologist to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Haematology Department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead three general Haematology clinics a week, reviewing Haematology inpatient admissions, lab work, and participating in our weekly sector multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Participate in the diagnosis and management of individual patients by liaison with patients, clinicians, and other hospital and community staff.
  • Undertake laboratory work, including advice regarding diagnostic samples, validation, and interpretation of results, and involvement in agreeing policies and procedures for the examination of samples.
  • Contribute to the development of our services, including the WWL Trust Anticoagulant Service, which is overseen by the Consultant Haematologists and delivered by a multidisciplinary team of nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and biomedical scientists.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • GMC with full licence to practice or eligible within six months of interview
  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview OR equivalent

We require a candidate with:

  • Clinical experience and knowledge in General Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Coagulation, and Malignant Haematology
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and keeping up-to-date with medical advances
  • Experience of recent and current research/relevant publications
  • Experience of teaching/training
  • Relevant experience in organisation and undertaking of audit
