We are currently seeking a Field-Based Mechanical Maintenance Technician to become a vital part of our team. This position is based at our operational sites, which are conveniently located and accessible from various regions.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Section Manager, the Field-Based Mechanical Maintenance Technician will play a crucial role in our 24/7 engineering operations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Addressing equipment failures promptly to ensure that production is restored swiftly, with temporary fixes being followed up by permanent solutions.
  • Conducting emergency repairs efficiently on all operational machinery.
  • Participating in the planning and execution of preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Managing small-scale projects and delivering them in a proactive and practical manner.
  • Adopting a cost-effective approach to maintenance tasks and engaging in root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
  • Coordinating with contractors and suppliers during their on-site activities.
  • Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the engineering department through your insights and experiences.
  • Performing welding and fabrication tasks to a high standard.
  • Utilizing risk assessments and method statements, and aiding in the development of safe working practices for repair operations.
  • Upholding and promoting Health & Safety regulations, adhering to all company protocols.
  • Identifying and reporting unsafe conditions and practices through established company procedures.
  • Using the computerized maintenance management system to document all work, including fault descriptions, spare parts utilized, and repairs conducted.
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Field-Based Mechanical Maintenance Technician position will be self-driven, enthusiastic, and capable of working independently. You should have demonstrable experience in an industrial or factory setting. Suitable candidates will:

  • Hold a recognized apprenticeship (preferably at a higher level).
  • Possess ONC/HNC qualifications (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Have a robust background in mechanical systems, particularly in heavy industry—experience with conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, and vibratory screens is preferred.
  • Exhibit strong fault-finding skills to identify issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Be adept at removing and fitting bearings.
  • Be capable of performing emergency repairs on all production equipment in a timely manner.
  • Have the ability to assess SHE risks associated with work activities and manage those risks effectively.
  • Be knowledgeable about site-specific SHE procedures and safe working practices.
