PRIMARY ROLE OBJECTIVES

  • Act as the Commission Manager, overseeing comprehensive service delivery
  • Ensure client goals are achieved through effective cost management services

ROLE SCOPE

Senior Cost Managers manage commissions of varying scales, typically within the £10m to £50m range. Our sectors include Healthcare, Education, Hospitality, Retail Banking, and more.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Commission Management includes:

  • Mentoring junior staff, assigning roles and responsibilities for effective cost management
  • Providing clients with feasibility study insights
  • Advising on procurement strategies
  • Overseeing estimating and cost planning phases, including presenting final cost plans
  • Managing tendering processes, including pre-qualification, tender list creation, analysis, and contract documentation
  • Acting as contract administrator, addressing post-contract cost variances and change control processes
  • Reviewing cost allowances and conducting valuations on larger projects
  • Generating monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to clients
  • Contributing to value engineering initiatives
  • Negotiating and finalizing accounts
  • Collaborating with clients, Project Managers, and consultants throughout project phases
  • Leading a cost management team when necessary, ensuring accountability for all responsibilities
  • Utilizing our comprehensive suite of digital cost management tools
  • Implementing our Embodied Carbon Calculator for carbon footprint reporting
  • Supporting the execution of our NewLeaf strategy
  • Managing internal fees and job costing requirements

Marketing and Business Development includes:

  • Identifying new business opportunities with existing clients
  • Building and maintaining a professional network
  • Leading bid submissions
  • Enhancing cost management procedures and templates
  • Participating in networking and professional development events

Internal Management Responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge management – inputting key information into the internal database
  • Process improvement – suggesting enhancements to internal systems
  • Supporting the development and mentorship of junior staff
  • Managing projects on D365

REPORTING STRUCTURE

A Senior Cost Manager typically reports to an Associate Director, Project Director, or Director.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Performance will be evaluated based on:

  • Development of strong client relationships
  • Effective teamwork within the cost management group
  • Identification of new business opportunities
  • Monitoring margin levels on all commissions
  • Effective knowledge sharing and retention
