F6 Ward Lead Nurse

Are you ready to elevate your leadership capabilities in a band 6 role? The F6 Ward is dedicated to general surgery, urology, colorectal surgery, and upper gastroenterology, providing care primarily for emergency surgical patients in a dynamic environment.

We seek a driven, enthusiastic, and seasoned nurse who is passionate about surgical care. As a member of the leadership team, you will be expected to exhibit outstanding communication and teamwork skills while being committed to enhancing patient outcomes. Your role will involve supporting the ward team in daily operations and providing clinical guidance to foster, develop, and sustain a positive patient experience, service quality, and skill enhancement. Our ward leaders are crucial to the ward's success and play a significant role in the development of staff. You will act as a role model, championing best practices and facilitating innovative approaches to care.

Main Responsibilities

Leadership and Management of Care

  • Ensure high standards of nursing care are delivered by yourself and others, based on comprehensive assessments of care needs and the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of care plans, involving patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Utilize your leadership abilities to ensure the ward operates efficiently in the absence of the Ward Manager.
  • Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe and effective management of the ward, including personnel management, facility oversight, and related systems and processes.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff within the ward, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and established protocols.
  • Coordinate care across the ward/department, deploying staff and prioritizing tasks as necessary.
  • Plan staff rotas in advance to ensure adequate staffing and skill mix, addressing any shortfalls proactively.
  • Support the Ward Manager in managing resources within the budget set by the Clinical Manager.
  • Assist the Ward Manager in the recruitment and selection of staff in accordance with established personnel policies.
