Position Overview

The role of the Psychological Support Assistant is integral to the Bristol specialist psychology service, focusing on individuals affected by substance use and its intersection with the criminal justice system. This position entails providing support in delivering both individual and group psychological interventions under the guidance of a qualified clinical psychologist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties: Assist in the provision of psychological services under the supervision of the clinical psychologist.
  • Deliver psychological interventions to individuals and groups, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines.
  • Work autonomously on a daily basis, following established goals reviewed in regular supervision sessions.
  • Compile and organize information about local resources beneficial to clients, including voluntary and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with team members and maintain effective communication with partner agencies.
  • Uphold a high standard of professionalism while interacting with clients in distress.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and statistics in accordance with organizational standards.

Supervision and Training

  • Engage in weekly clinical supervision sessions with the clinical psychologist.
  • Participate in group and peer supervision as necessary.
  • Undertake relevant training to enhance professional expertise.
  • Contribute to the education and training of multidisciplinary team members and staff from other organizations.

Research and Evaluation

  • Assist in the evaluation and audit of services, including participation in focus groups.
  • Conduct literature reviews and searches as required.
  • Engage in audit and personal review activities as needed.

Professional Conduct

  • Adhere to the British Psychological Society's Code of Conduct and Professional Practice Guidelines.
  • Participate in service-related meetings and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Utilize regular support and supervision opportunities within the psychology team.

Technical Skills

  • Assist in data collection and the creation of graphics for reports and presentations.
  • Utilize statistical software for generating results for publications and reports.

Qualifications

  • Essential: BSc in Psychology (2:1 or above) or equivalent, eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Desirable: Experience in providing psychological interventions and knowledge of psychological models relevant to substance use and mental health.
