We are seeking a Principal Electrical / Electronic Engineer with expertise in designing and implementing cutting-edge machines or systems throughout the entire product lifecycle, preferably within the renewable energy sector. Experience in energy generation, storage solutions, and microgrid systems will be advantageous.
In this pivotal role, you will finalize the design and execution of our initial technology rollouts, working towards scaling our product offerings. You will inherit existing Sostratus Energy products developed by our historical engineering teams and partners, ensuring effective deployment and integration with host sites.
As a vital member of the Delivery team, you will guide the product definition through detailed electrical and electronic design phases towards deployment across various locations. This position requires leveraging your product delivery experience while collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
The role is primarily based at our headquarters, with opportunities for travel to emerging client sites and suppliers across Europe and potentially further afield as we grow our global presence.
We envision our early-stage employees growing alongside us, becoming integral to Sostratus Energy's narrative and our mission to combat climate change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor teams in the development of safe electrical and electronic designs, collaborating with internal teams and external contractors on various projects.
- Oversee the specification, delegation, and delivery of all necessary electrical and electronic components, along with interdisciplinary design outputs.
- Engage with key external vendors for electrical and electronic packages, particularly suppliers and site hosts.
- Assist the management team in the technical delivery of detailed product designs and analyses for pilot and commercial systems, focusing on mechanical and electrical requirements.
- Utilize fundamental engineering principles to define vendor boundaries and optimize product performance as Sostratus Energy scales its operations.
- Collaborate closely at the mechanical-electrical-control interface, enhancing electrical engineering capabilities across the organization.
- Possess expert knowledge of electrical, control, and instrumentation scopes of work, including functional design specifications and control panel specifications.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of industrial experience in delivering projects with substantial electro-mechanical and electronic design elements across various sectors.
- MEng in Engineering with a focus on Electrical or a related discipline.
- Comprehensive understanding of the complete machine/product development cycle, from conceptualization to decommissioning.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD Modeling Software and PLM systems, with SOLIDWORKS & 3DEXPERIENCE being preferred.
- A strong passion for developing innovative solutions to address significant global challenges.
- Demonstrated practical skills, comfortable with both hands-on and desk-based tasks, and able to navigate ambiguity effectively.
- In-depth understanding of electrical/electronic packaging and procurement strategies.
- Experience in developing appropriate test hardware and procedures for both development and production phases.
- Ability to produce high-quality documentation, including requirements capture, test plans, and design documentation.
- Commitment to continuous improvement of existing products.
- Capability to design and critically assess General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and P&IDs from electrical and electronic perspectives.
- Familiarity with hazard and risk identification, particularly concerning relevant safety directives and standards.
- Appreciation for design approaches that minimize maintenance requirements.
- Experience with hazard identification methodologies such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, and FMEA.
- Broad exposure to process unit operations and mechanical packaged systems, including medium voltage electrical installations.
Desirable Attributes:
- Specialization in mechanical/electrical disciplines during undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
- Over 10 years of experience in relevant industries.
- Familiarity with low and medium voltage systems.
- Chartered engineering status with recognized professional bodies.
- Experience in managing engineering supply chains.
- Knowledge of motor drive design, including inverters and DC-DC converters for high-speed motors.
- Experience with rotating machinery.
- Formal training or qualifications in machine safety or related fields.
