Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Play Therapy Specialist to join our team at Stonewater. As a Family Play Therapy Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering person-centred, age-appropriate, strengths-based support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake therapeutic assessments of the needs of children and young people, determining their suitability for play therapy.
  • Plan and provide direct and indirect play therapy opportunities that encourage children and young people to develop and express themselves through activities and play.
  • Use a variety of interventions such as storytelling, malleable materials, drama, art, puppets, sand play, games, music, movement, creative visualization, and role play to support children and young people.
  • Measure progress and effectiveness of techniques throughout the therapy process.
  • Encourage co-production with children and young people, using a range of engagement techniques to seek their views and explore ideas for future service provision.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level and registered with an appropriate professional organization relevant to therapy modality.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing outcomes-focused therapy to children, young people, and their families.
  • Good understanding of theories of child development and attachment.
  • Experience of organizing and providing appropriate play and other activities.
  • In-depth understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people.
  • Ability to work in a non-judgmental way, recognizing different and individual needs children may have.
  • Understanding and commitment to compliance in Safeguarding and Child Protection.
  • Ability to build and develop supportive relationships with women and their children while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Proven experience of caseload management.
  • Ability to demonstrate partnership working with specialist agencies such as mental health teams, offending services, or other relevant services.
