Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Interpreter Training and Development to join our team. As a key member of our Interpreting Services department, you will be responsible for overseeing the training and development of our interpreters, ensuring they possess the skills and knowledge required to deliver exceptional service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for interpreters, including workshops, e-learning modules, and live training sessions.
- Assess the skill sets of potential interpreters and provide diagnostic feedback to improve their performance.
- Collaborate with the Director of Interpreting to develop and implement strategies for expanding our interpreting services.
- Ensure that all new employees receive adequate training and induction, aligning with company protocols.
- Support recruitment activities by creating and providing pipeline training programs for trainee interpreters.
- Develop and maintain standardized assessment tools to evaluate interpreter skills and customer service.
- Oversee the administration of the interpreting team, working closely with the Head of Workforce Management.
- Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines for the interpreting team, including managing team information within the Microsoft suite of applications.
- Ensure compliance with SignVideo/Sorenson standards and policies, as well as registration bodies' Code of Conduct.
- Manage employee relations and maintain positive employee morale.
- Support the safe delivery of services by employees in remote locations.
- Communicate and liaise with other departments within the company as needed to support other teams and coordinate their support of the interpreting team.
Requirements
- Qualified BSL/English Interpreter/Translator with 5+ years of interpreting/translation experience.
- 5+ years of interpreter/translator training experience required.
- 5+ years of management experience preferred.
- 2+ years of video interpreting experience preferred.
- Sign language interpreting/translation qualifications required.
- Ability to assess the skill sets of potential interpreting/translation employees.
- Provide diagnostic feedback to each Interpreting/translator employee regarding skill sets.
- Vast experience of training development and delivery.
- Knowledge of adult education theories and ability to adapt materials for delivery.
- Experience in e-learning development or willingness and ability to learn.
- Track, work on, and complete various projects simultaneously.
- Consistently meet deadlines and produce high-quality work.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to hold effective coaching sessions.
- Near-native command of British Sign Language and English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to write reports in Excel and Word.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly regulated work environment.
- Collaborative, supportive, and positive attitude.
- Team-oriented.
- Computer and video equipment used in all areas of the job.
- Solid understanding of the Code of Professional Ethics.
- Fast learner and motivated.
