Job Title: Lecturer - Inclusive Learning (ASD & Behaviours of Concern)

Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

Merton College is seeking an experienced and qualified Lecturer to join our Foundation Learning Department. As a key member of our team, you will provide tutorial and pastoral care for learners with learning disabilities/difficulties, monitor work experience activities, and take responsibility for their study programme, including Maths and English.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of SEND and the ability to work successfully as part of a team. You will be able to manage students with challenging behaviour and demonstrate the ability to teach and communicate at a level appropriate to the students and in a way that recognises their different learning abilities.

You will be aware of the changing agenda for SEND learners in further education and the implications for delivery and promotion of learning. You will have knowledge of the accreditation framework and assessment strategies in the post-16 sector, including RARPA, and understand the application of information technology and assistive technology to teaching and learning strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tutorial and pastoral care for learners with learning disabilities/difficulties
  • Monitor work experience activities and take responsibility for learners' study programme
  • Act as a Course Leader and take responsibility for learners' Maths and English
  • Take an active role in all aspects of student assessment and accreditation
  • Participate in curriculum planning and product development to deliver the College's strategic objectives

Requirements:

  • Qualified and experienced teacher with a strong understanding of SEND
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the accreditation framework and assessment strategies in the post-16 sector
  • Understanding of the application of information technology and assistive technology to teaching and learning strategies
