About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic placement student to join our team at the Central Laser Facility. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, develop your skills, and contribute to the advancement of laser plasma diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, testing, and integration of new diagnostics and equipment
  • Design and construct hardware and software solutions
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to install and operate diagnostics
  • Develop and utilize analysis codes
  • Communicate results and techniques to the wider team
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • Good understanding of basic physics concepts (optics, electromagnetism, lasers)
  • Computer programming experience (e.g. Python, C++)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Demonstrate good team working capabilities
Desirable Skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Responsible approach to health and safety
  • Experience with data analysis
