About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Quadram Institute Bioscience, specializing in the development and application of microphysiological systems (MPS) including organ-on-chip technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research projects based on MPS, including organ-on-chip technologies, to support the work carried out at QIB on the interaction between food, microbiome, and the host.
  • Develop advanced MPS models, including co-culture with microbiome, immune cells, organoids from different body sites, and engineered cell models.
  • Liaise, supervise, and train QIB users, staff, and students on the use of MPS platforms.
  • Liaise with technical staff, suppliers, and carry out horizon-scanning of new MPS technologies.
  • Liaise with the NRP Biorepository and QIB Human Study Team for relevant ethical applications and access to human tissue.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the cell/tissue culture room.
  • Present research results internally and at international conferences.
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific publications and reports.
Requirements
  • PhD in biological sciences.
  • Experience in cell biology, imaging, organoid culture, and microbiology.
  • Knowledge of organ-on-chip systems, immunohistochemistry, immunoassays, microfluidic physiological systems, intestinal organoid culture, primary cell cultures, and co-cultures with immune cells or microbiome.
  • Experience in supervising, training, and mentoring others.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
