About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to Speech and Language Therapists in the delivery of communication and swallowing therapy programs.
  • Work with patients who have communication and swallowing difficulties, providing input and support as needed.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teamwork, staff and carer training, and video-fluoroscopy support.
  • Perform general duties within the team, as required.
Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant area or equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and relating to clients with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Ability to use own initiative, work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility in approach to changes in service need.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities in work and service delivery.
  • Commitment to the Trust's policies relating to Risk Management, Confidentiality, and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to interpret therapy programs and devise new activities to enable clients to reach goals.
  • Experience of working in a hospital/care environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working with people with long-term medical conditions.
  • Computer skills, including basic software packages Word processing, Power Point, Excel.
  • Basic understanding of the communication process, language disorders, non-verbal communication, total communication, visual support, high-tech systems, low-tech systems, and modifying language input.
