About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our team at Leonardo, a leading provider of innovative solutions for the defence and aerospace industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement solutions for next-generation support and training services, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support the identification and management of stakeholder requirements, and create a stakeholder engagement and communication strategy.
  • Establish and mature stakeholder needs, associating priority, interest, influence, and trade-off needs to determine optimum capability to solve stakeholders' problems.
  • Support the creation of support and service solutions, identifying and exploiting existing Leonardo technology, processes, and subject matter expertise.
  • Carry out system functional analysis, modelling, and architecture development/refinement as required.
  • Deliver technical documentation and designs to meet programme requirements in terms of time, cost, and quality.
  • Evaluate emerging issues and risk, and help define opportunities and risk mitigation options.
  • Coordinate multi-stakeholder analysis into reports and presentations for delivery to customers and industry partners.
  • Foster relationships and networks within and outside CS3, and actively identify opportunities for adoption of best practice.
  • Coach or mentor other engineers.
Requirements
  • Experience of analysing customers' operational needs to guide the development of services capable of meeting current and future support and training environments.
  • Understanding of the engineering lifecycle, and how decisions made in the early lifecycle affect later stages.
  • Ability to balance competing needs using operational analysis, structured analytical techniques, and competitor analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with an ability to influence and adapt according to changing demands.
  • Ability to elicit technical and commercial stakeholder needs suitable for sell-off.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a wide range of organisations, disciplines, backgrounds, and levels of seniority.
  • Ability to maintain engineering best practice, including looking externally to sources such as academia or other industries.
  • Experience of managing requirements, including use of associated toolsets.
  • Self-motivated with an aptitude for problem-solving and driving difficult issues to conclusion.
  • Awareness of digital technologies and/or synthetic environments.
  • Experience of developing defence-based support or service solutions.
