Job Description:

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Leader to head our Major Projects team. As a key member of the Essex Highways Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for leading a diverse team of professionals to deliver successful outcomes and shape our service offerings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of around 180 staff to deliver a wide range of design services, including traffic data, transport planning, scheme design, and flood management.
  • Project Management: Manage the delivery of multiple projects, including financial budget and programme forecasting, reporting, and overall management of design delivery.
  • Principal Designer: Ensure that all schemes are implemented in accordance with CDM 2015, and all technical and legal processes are followed.
  • Service Planning: Produce the annual service plan for the different areas, ensuring that continuous development is embedded into each of the teams and that there is a clear vision provided for the year ahead.
  • Collaboration: Bring together all teams to work collaboratively to ensure schemes are delivered in the most efficient manner, taking advantage of synergies and encouraging cross-service working.
Requirements
  • Management Experience: Significant and demonstrable management experience within either a Transport or Highways environment with a track record of successful delivery of schemes, projects, and services.
  • Health and Safety: Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build a highly performing and motivated team from diverse backgrounds.
  • Financial Management: Experience of financial management, ideally in both the public and private sectors.
