Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom North Bristol NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Staff Support Psychologist to become a vital member of our esteemed Trust-wide Staff Support Team at North Bristol NHS Trust. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Staff Support team, delivering psychologically-informed assistance to colleagues and facilitating team-oriented interventions throughout our organization. We invite applications from individuals in band 7 roles, those nearing completion of their Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology, as well as those currently in 8a positions.

The Staff Support Team offers a diverse array of responsive and proactive assistance to staff across our Trust. Our service is grounded in the belief that wellbeing and resilience are best nurtured through interpersonal connections rather than solely as individual traits. We value creativity and innovation, and the successful candidate will work alongside the team and key partners in other services to co-create and implement interventions tailored to the unique challenges and needs of our colleagues in various settings.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide compassionate, specialized interventions to a diverse range of healthcare personnel. This may encompass workshops, training sessions, reflective groups, one-on-one consultations, and other direct and indirect support as agreed upon with the Staff Support Team.

2. Design and implement customized team interventions aimed at enhancing psychological safety and compassion within teams, while also supporting trauma-informed care for staff experiencing work-related trauma or at risk of such experiences.

3. Regularly assess clinical work using both quantitative and qualitative metrics, and present findings as necessary to illustrate the effectiveness of interventions; share insights and best practices within and beyond the Trust for quarterly activity reports, meetings, and conferences.

4. Actively engage in professional meetings, supervision, and training, keeping the Staff Support lead and team informed of significant issues, updates, developments, and risks related to the psychological wellbeing of staff and the organization.

5. Cultivate and maintain strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including those within Staff Experience, HR, People & Transformation, Occupational Health, and relevant external organizations, ensuring a clear understanding of co-working agreements and responsibilities.

6. Contribute to the advancement of the North Bristol NHS Trust strategy for staff wellbeing, including involvement in research and service development initiatives.

7. As appropriate and based on experience, provide specialized supervision and training to assistant psychologists or Trainee Clinical Psychologists on placement from local Doctoral Training Courses.

8. Participate in performance appraisals with the service lead at designated intervals as part of ongoing professional development.

9. Foster a supportive, psychologically safe, and open environment within the Staff Support team, committing to self-care and team care as fundamental aspects of the role.

We are dedicated to ensuring that members of the Staff Support team feel valued and supported in their roles. The successful candidate and their line manager will ensure an appropriate level of clinical supervision and ad hoc support as needed, in accordance with professional practice guidelines. Together, they will establish a job plan and conduct annual appraisals for personal development, or more frequently as required.
