Job Title: Highways Project Manager

United Living Group is a leading provider of infrastructure services, dedicated to creating a connected and sustainable future. We are seeking an experienced Highways Project Manager to join our team in the North West of England.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing high-value gas transmission and distribution contracts nationwide, ensuring programme requirements are met while working in line with company and divisional objectives. The role will involve managing projects to achieve targets in respect of safety, time, cost, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the successful delivery of projects, including attending pre-start meetings, devising strategic programmes of works, and monitoring progress to ensure targets are met.
  2. Prepare and manage project delivery plans, including short-term programmes and amendments as necessary, to ensure work is carried out within project requirements and timescales.
  3. Oversee project design, safety, quality management, resource planning, programme management, and commercial management.
  4. Manage the company's obligations and rights under contract terms.
  5. Act as a strong leader in health, safety, quality, and environmental management, promoting high standards and ensuring compliance with company procedures.
  6. Ensure accurate and compliant HSQ&E activity and reporting, highlighting and resolving concerns when identified.
  7. Manage project staffing, leadership, and morale, ensuring high levels of commitment and motivation.
  8. Support the Contracts Manager in managing areas of opportunity and risk that may impact the business plan.
  9. Work closely with the Commercial team to ensure commercial and operational matters are fully aligned and managed.
  10. Ensure changes to project scope are notified and approved by the client, with clear understanding of implications and financial impact.
  11. Prepare accurate CVRs, achieve project target profitability, identify project risks and opportunities, and advise on forecast monthly turnover.
  12. Select and appoint sub-contractors based on financial and quality performance, undertake regular reviews to ensure work is carried out to a high and safe standard, and agree scopes of each sub-contract package.
  13. Lead people responsibilities for the team, including Performance & Development Reviews, coaching, and supporting team members to achieve individual and business objectives.
  14. Provide up-to-date and accurate reports on project progress, highlighting potential risks to relevant parties.
  15. Ensure strong working relationships are maintained on the project between Operations and Commercial teams, ensuring good financial and programme controls are in place.
  16. Contribute to the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
  17. Minimise defects during and after construction, ensuring defects are dealt with promptly.
Requirements
  1. Must be an experienced Gas or Pipeline Project Manager with site management safety certificate (SMSTS / IOSH Managing Safely).
  2. Commercial and programming awareness, with experience using NEC form of contract.
  3. Proven track record of successful delivery of projects from start to finish.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  5. Experience on similar works for / with National Grid, Cadent, Northern Gas Networks, Scotia Gas Networks would be advantageous.
  6. Experience managing high-value projects or portfolios.
  7. Willing to travel on a weekly basis, lodging where required.
  8. Full UK driving license.
