Candidates must hold the NCCQ or possess substantial clinical coding experience in an acute care environment. Responsibilities include the clinical coding of intricate acute specialties, requiring the extraction of clinical data from patient records and translating it into diagnostic (ICD10) and procedural (OPCS) coding classifications.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will adopt a flexible work approach, collaborating with team members to meet stringent deadlines. A solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is essential, alongside a commendable level of education.

This role involves engaging and collaborating with clinicians across various specialties to ensure that all procedures and diagnoses are accurate and comply with national standards.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

This position necessitates an organized approach to managing workloads in a fast-paced environment, where accuracy and attention to detail are critical.

Remote work options are available for certain periods, utilizing secure access.

The role will be conducted across various Barts Health Hospital sites, with the expectation of travel between locations as needed.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • A-level education including Mathematics and English or equivalent experience
  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Desirable Criteria

  • Certificate in Anatomy & Physiology
  • Medical Terminology qualification

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Advanced specialist coding knowledge supported by theory and practical experience
  • Participation in refresher and specialty workshops
  • Capability to code across various specialty areas
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative as required
  • Familiarity with PAS/hospital systems

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience coding complex cases, including Neurosurgery and Renal cases
