About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Older Persons Community therapy service, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to older adults with communication disorders and dysphagia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, develop, and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment plans for older adults with communication disorders and dysphagia.
  • Provide professional advice to multidisciplinary teams on the management and care of patients with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.
  • Undertake joint assessments with other Speech and Language Therapists and/or other professionals within the specialist area of dementia.
  • Communicate condition-related information to service users, carers, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work closely with service users, carers, and families to agree decision-making relevant to patient management.
  • Demonstrate empathy and effective communication with service users, carers, families, and colleagues, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
  • Develop skills in motivating service users and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.
  • Manage a dementia caseload with a broad range of presentations.
  • Use knowledge to inform sound clinical judgments/decision making for case management.
  • Promote a client-centered approach that respects service users' needs and opinions and promotes their active participation in any intervention and the decision-making process associated with it.
