We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Senior to join our Private Client tax team at Johnston Carmichael. As a Tax Senior, you will play a key role in assisting our Client Relationship Managers in the preparation of personal and business tax returns.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax preparation and a keen eye for detail. You will be responsible for:
- Preparing partnership tax returns for a diverse portfolio of businesses, including sole traders and partnerships.
- Processing tax return information and preparing self-assessment tax returns for a varied portfolio of clients, including trusts and estates.
- Dealing with loss relief claims, pension charges, and capital gains tax reliefs, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
- Liaising with clients and HM Revenue & Customs in relation to basic tax and national insurance queries, providing clear and concise advice.
- Checking statements of account, repayments, and payments, and addressing client queries regarding these.
- Assisting the tax teams with general tax administration duties, including data entry and record-keeping.
- Providing general support to the wider tax team with their day-to-day tasks, as required, including identifying and drafting tax advisory assignments, such as capital gains tax planning and inheritance tax.
- Reviewing simple tax returns prepared by tax assistants, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Planning, scheduling, and delegating work to tax assistants and students, including developing staff and providing feedback.
- Supporting the Tax Manager/Senior Tax Manager in managing the team, by liaising with clients, colleagues, and HMRC.
- Demonstrating a willingness to develop tax knowledge and stay up-to-date with changes in tax legislation.
- Exhibiting strong numerical, written English, communication, and team working skills, with a focus on delivering exceptional client service.
