Job Title: Academic Adviser

Glasgow Caledonian University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Academic Adviser to join our Disability Team. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the university fulfils its lawful duty in respect to making reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants and students.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the needs of disabled students, identifying appropriate services and facilities to meet students' needs, and recommending adjustments to teaching and assessment practices. You will also provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues across the university (including teaching staff) on reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice to accommodate the needs of disabled students.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all students. As an Academic Adviser, you will work closely with the Disability Team to promote inclusive practice and ensure that our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible to disabled people.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of disability and inclusive education, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to work effectively with students, staff and external partners to promote inclusive practice and ensure that the university meets its obligations under the Equality Act 2010.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of disabled students and identify appropriate services and facilities to meet students' needs
  • Recommend adjustments to teaching and assessment practices to ensure inclusivity
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues on reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice
  • Work closely with the Disability Team to promote inclusive practice and ensure that the university meets its obligations under the Equality Act 2010
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners to promote inclusive practice and ensure that the university meets its obligations under the Equality Act 2010

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of disability and inclusive education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff and external partners
  • Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and its implications for higher education
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
