Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Engineering and Programmes, you will play a crucial role in driving the development of the Engineering & Programmes function. Your primary focus will be on leading collaborative R&D opportunities that align with strategic objectives, identifying and recruiting industry and academic partners, and developing winning bids.

Main Objectives:

  • Seek out and secure collaborative R&D opportunities that align with the organisation's strategic objectives.
  • Identify and recruit industry and academic partners to support the development of the Engineering & Programmes function.
  • Develop and submit winning bids for collaborative R&D projects.
  • Oversee the Very Light Rail testing and prototype build programmes.
  • Develop and launch membership and facility hire operational models.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of technical projects secured through collaborative bids and commercial proposals.
  • Work closely with the Council Procurement team to support the purchase and installation of specialist equipment required for the laboratories.
  • Build a team in line with the planned growth outlined in the 5-year strategic plan, including immediate line management of the Test Track Manager.
  • Support the development of annual business plans to include performance targets, in line with the 5-year strategic plan.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering.
  • Evidence of continued learning and professional development.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in an industrial setting.
  • Track record of writing and winning collaborative bids for public funding.
  • Experience of writing commercial business proposals.
  • Experience of managing complex projects.
