We are seeking a skilled Trading Standards Officer to join our team at Brackenberry Ltd. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in assisting a Local Authority in Powys with the appointment of a Trading Standards Officer on a 2-month contract, which is highly likely to be extended at the client's discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To investigate consumer complaints and provide expert advice on consumer rights and responsibilities under civil and criminal law, contributing to an informed and educated local community.
  • To collaborate with partners, including outside contractors, and other organizations on a local, national, or international level as necessary, participating in groups that enable the flexible, creative, and challenging delivery of the Trading Standards Service.
  • To support, motivate, and train officers of the Service, including students, and supervise them when necessary, enabling them to effectively carry out their duties and deputize for the Senior Trading Standards Officer in their absence.
  • To undertake duties required by legislation to be performed by a Weights and Measures Inspector, assisting the Council in meeting its statutory obligations, and adopt the role of authorized food officers under the Food Safety Act and associated legislation.
  • To manage and lead the Service in nominated specialist areas, including monitoring the relevant budget and producing project work action plans and reporting performance in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Trading Standards (or equivalent)
  • Qualification to enforce Food Safety Legislation
  • Qualification to perform the duties of a Weights and Measures Inspector

Experience:

  • At least 12 months of experience working in a Trading Standards environment
  • Proven record of working with consumers and businesses to resolve disputes and secure compliance
  • Experience investigating and reporting on breaches of Trading Standards legislation
