We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Care Dentist to join our team at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality dental care to patients with additional needs, working in a variety of settings including domiciliary care and acute hospitals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a full range of clinical dental care for people with additional needs who have been referred into the service.
- Deliver dental treatment as required in a range of locations, including domiciliary care, working at acute hospitals if required. This may also involve the provision of treatment under general anaesthesia and sedation.
- Promote and maintain patients' oral health within NHS regulations. Provide dental screening or dental epidemiological surveys of school children and other priority groups if required by the service.
- Provide clinical leadership for the local dental team.
- Work with the wider clinical team and oral health promotion staff in the provision of high-quality dental care for patients.
- Achieve personal performance targets, for both clinical activity and management tasks.
- Provide line management for Band A dental officers and perform line management duties for direct reports, including absence monitoring, supervision of leave and study leave and annual appraisal of these staff members.
- Meet Band B Dental Officer competencies as set out within the terms and conditions of the Salaried Dental Service Contract. The post holder will be required to keep and build a portfolio of these competencies, which will form the basis of an annual appraisal.
- BDS or equivalent qualification.
- Appropriate postgraduate qualification.
- Full registration with the General Dental Council.
- VT Number or equivalent.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- On an NHS Dental Performers List.
- Familiarity with IT systems.
- Commitment to learn NHS rules and regulations.
- Significant experience of providing routine dental care.
- Previous experience of working within Special Care Dentistry.
- Experience of complex clinical treatment plans.
- Experience of managing/mentoring a clinical dental team.
- Well-equipped surgeries.
- Full computerisation.
