Ecologist Opportunity at Wessex Water

We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to join our Environment and Planning Services team within our Sustainable Operations and Engineering department.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity will require you to travel throughout the Wessex Water region, working closely with Design Engineers and Project Managers to minimize the ecological impacts and risks of projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of individual projects from initial design through to construction.
  • Work with Design Engineers and Project Managers to ensure projects meet ecological standards.
  • Conduct habitat mapping and protected species appraisal surveys.
  • Develop and implement ecological reports and impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements
  • Degree in ecology or a related subject.
  • At least three years of experience in a project delivery-focused role.
  • Experience in habitat mapping and protected species appraisal surveys.
  • Good ecological report writing skills.
  • Understanding of the UK planning process and legal framework.
  • Proactive and flexible approach with a focus on successful project delivery.
  • Good IT skills and experience in GIS systems (ArcGIS).
  • Hold one or more protected species survey licences (great crested newts or bats).
  • Hold one or more protected species mitigation licences (great crested newts, badgers, water voles).
