Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or OT to join our Family Safeguarding Service as a Mental Health Practitioner based in Bury.

This role offers a unique chance to work collaboratively with families to safeguard children, providing specialist assessment and interventions for parents with mental health issues impacting their ability to safeguard their children.

Main Responsibilities
  • Complete mental health needs and risk screening assessments.
  • Signpost service users to relevant services.
  • Consult on mental health issues to teams within the Family Safeguarding Service.
  • Attend team meetings and group supervisions as needed in Family Safeguarding team.
  • Assist the service user to engage in relevant adult mental health services and contribute to the development and implementation of service evaluation measures.
  • Undertake short-term supportive, psychologically informed intervention work with parents who have anxiety and other mental health difficulties that impact upon their ability to engage with the Family Safeguarding Service.
  • Co-facilitate training, workshops, and disseminate knowledge of mental health difficulties across the team/s.
About Us

The Family Safeguarding Service is based within Bury Council, and the Mental Health Practitioners Family Safeguarding are employed by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and seconded to BC. We work closely with both organisations, providing a range of services including secondary mental health care across the borough, NHS Talking Therapies Bury, and child/adult services.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current registration or other professional registered qualification in a health or social care field.
  • Post-qualification experience of clinical work with service users experiencing a range of mental health issues.
  • Experience of delivering evidence-based interventions in a time-limited framework.
  • Evidence of assessment across a broad range of mental health problems.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of risk assessment and management.
  • Experience of multi-agency working.
  • Experience of working in situations of crisis and emotionally demanding environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of mental health issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of issues that impact upon people with mental health issues.
  • Detailed knowledge of risk and the protective factors that affect people with mental health issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of diversity and anti-discriminatory/anti-oppressive practice.
  • Knowledge of current mental health legislation/policy.
  • Ability to assess service users' presenting problems and needs quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to determine the most appropriate course of action from a range of available options.
  • Ability to clearly communicate the outcomes of assessments, verbally and in practice.
  • An ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be able to work collaboratively with a range of professionals.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with stressful situations, including safeguarding, family breakdown, serious mental ill health, and risk of self-harm.
  • A willingness to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
  • Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs.
  • Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or working towards a formal teaching qualification.
  • Completion of Preparation for Mentorship/Practice Teacher/Fieldwork Educator qualification or willingness to complete.
  • ENB 998 or equivalent Teaching/Supervision Qualification.
  • Experience of audit, evaluation, and outcome measurement.
  • Knowledge around dual diagnosis and/or a variety of personality presentations.
  • Structured clinical management training - for people with complex emotional relational needs.
  • An ability to undertake practice-based research. An ability to evaluate practice and ensure findings are used to ensure service delivery.
