Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated individual for the role of Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Engineering, focusing on the mechanics of energy storage systems.

Location: The successful candidate will be based in a vibrant academic environment in Cambridge, UK.

Research Focus: This position will delve into the complexities of energy materials, particularly lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells, which are susceptible to various degradation mechanisms such as swell-induced fatigue and micro-cracking. The research will explore how chemical composition influences apparent toughness and how both mechanical and electrical factors contribute to failure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced numerical research into the mechanical behavior of battery systems.
  • Engage in collaborative projects and contribute to academic seminars.
  • Publish findings in reputable scientific journals and maintain communication with project sponsors.

Qualifications: Candidates should possess or be nearing completion of a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Previous research experience and a solid publication record are essential.

Appointment Levels: Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis but have not yet received their degree will be appointed at the Research Assistant level, transitioning to Research Associate upon PhD completion.

Salary Range: The salary for the Research Assistant position is between £29,605 and £33,966, while the Research Associate position offers a salary range of £36,024 to £44,263.

Contract Duration: This position is funded for an initial period of 24 months.
