Position Overview

At Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, we are dedicated to fostering leadership opportunities for our psychological professions staff. Our Trust is home to various esteemed leadership positions held by psychologists, including roles such as Director of Strategy and Integration and Chief Psychologist. We prioritize the professional growth of our psychological staff across all domains, guided by our Director of Therapies and Chief Psychologist, both of whom are Consultant Clinical Psychologists.

We invite applications from passionate and driven psychologists who are focused on providing patient-centered care and treatment, particularly within our Complex Emotional Needs sector. Our team members are characterized by their proactive approach, confidence, motivation, and initiative. They demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and resourcefulness, effectively managing the demands of a challenging work environment.

Key Responsibilities

As part of a national initiative aimed at transforming mental health services, we have established a new Mental Health Hub in Milton Keynes. This hub integrates multiple teams to enhance the accessibility and timeliness of care for clients. The therapies pathway provides evidence-based treatments for complex trauma and mood disorders, including Personality Disorder and Psychosis.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities and clinical proficiency in addressing complex mental health challenges, with substantial experience in managing complex emotional needs (CEN) for clients often diagnosed with personality disorders. This role is pivotal in the ongoing development and delivery of the specialized Complex Emotional Needs pathway, ensuring the systematic provision of high-quality psychological therapy services. Responsibilities include overseeing referrals and directing clients to appropriate treatment pathways, as well as delivering psychological interventions in specialized areas such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT).

Our Trust also supports several established staff networks catering to diverse individual needs.

The successful candidate may interact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust, we strongly advocate for vaccination as the most effective means of safeguarding oneself, family, colleagues, and patients in healthcare settings.

Job Duties

  1. Conduct specialized assessments of referred service users utilizing a variety of psychological data sources, including tests, self-report measures, and structured interviews, to formulate recommendations as necessary.

  7. Conduct risk assessments and provide guidance on psychological aspects of risk management.
  8. Communicate sensitively and effectively regarding assessment, formulation, and treatment plans, monitoring progress throughout the care process.
  9. Offer expertise and support to facilitate the effective provision of psychological care by all treatment team members.
