Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Rehabilitation Engineering Specialist to become a vital part of our collaborative clinical team. In this role, you will conduct evaluations with our NHS wheelchair users across various environments, ensuring a superior customer experience is upheld at all times. Your empathetic and resilient demeanor will be essential when navigating challenging scenarios, and you will work closely with our customer service, logistics, and broader clinical teams. Your responsibilities will include designing, fabricating, and assembling seating and wheelchair solutions tailored to individual needs, while adhering to best practices under the guidance of the Clinical Lead and Rehabilitation Engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload of clinical provisions as assigned by the rehabilitation engineer or clinical lead.
  • Deliver, set up, trial, or demonstrate equipment to service users and their caregivers.
  • Assist registered personnel during intricate assessments by fitting and/or adjusting postural equipment.
  • Support rehabilitation engineers with complex wheelchair modifications and custom builds.
  • Prepare assessment tools for the wider clinical team.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

Required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficient in using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Computer literate with the ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Valid UK driving license.

Desirable

  • Understanding of various neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Familiarity with 24-hour postural management and its implications for wheelchair and seating solutions.
  • Knowledge of pressure ulcer prevention and management.
  • Experience with electronic patient record systems.
  • Access to a private vehicle for work-related purposes.
  • Basic clinical assessment skills.
  • Experience in audit and research/evaluation.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in health or social care settings.

Desirable

  • Experience working within community settings.
  • Background in wheelchair services, rehabilitation services, learning disability services, or special education institutions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSEs in Mathematics and English at grade 4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.
  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND), or degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Membership in a relevant special interest group.
  • Level 4 qualification or higher in a pertinent engineering discipline.
