About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team at Liberty Steel Group. As a Mechanical Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our heavy manufacturing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine planned maintenance schedules to ensure equipment availability
  • Respond to and resolve breakdown situations in a timely and efficient manner
  • Carry out reactive and preventative maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment
  • Ensure a good standard of health and safety is maintained at all times

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and implement control measures in line with risk assessments, method statements, and department procedures
  • Assess risk and carry out point of work risk assessments to identify hazards and implement control measures
  • Implement isolation and immobilization procedures as required
  • Proactively demonstrate a good attitude towards health, safety, and environmental matters
  • Ensure business health and safety instructions are followed

Requirements

  • Recognized mechanical apprenticeship (HNC level or equivalent)
  • Mechanical experience in heavy manufacturing industry
  • Maintenance of gearboxes and coupling systems
  • Experience in use of mechanical equipment, specialist tools, and lifting equipment
  • Fault finding experience on pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Mechanical maintenance of handling equipment, pumps, and pipework systems
  • Knowledge of working with PPM systems and carrying out preventative maintenance
  • Experience in equipment/spares strip down and rebuild – bench fitting/refurbishment work
  • Basic hydraulic, welding, and pipefitting skills
  • Good level of problem-solving awareness
  • Understanding of reporting of PPM activities and breakdowns
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping awareness and standards
  • Experience of adhering to SWP's, risk assessments, procedures, and permit systems
  • Self-starting driven individual capable of leading a small team
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups

Working Pattern

The working pattern for this role is shift-based, rotating, days, afternoons, and nights.
