Clinical Duties of Post Holder

The appointed consultant will be responsible for providing psychiatric services to children and young people living in Leeds, working closely with the multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Medical review of patients in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  2. Attendance at system meetings via telephone or in person.
  3. Advice, consultation, and supervision to the team.
  4. Participation in management and academic meetings.
  5. Supervision of nurse prescribers.
  6. Responsibility for supervising second on-call doctors in emergency assessments, including Section 136 assessments.
  7. Supporting daytime unplanned work.

The consultant will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support the young person and family, providing advice, support, and supervision to trainees and the team.

Training Duties

The Leeds CAMH service hosts up to six ST4-6s in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, who are placed by the programme director and training committee of the Yorkshire Regional Rotational Scheme. The postholder will be encouraged to access training and gain approval as a clinical supervisor.

Once approved, the consultant will provide clinical supervision to either a specialist trainee or core trainee in the community team, alternating between providing supervision for core and specialist trainees as required.

Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance

The appointee will participate in audit and clinical governance within CYPMHS, collaborating with the CYPMHS Clinical and Medical Leads, and adhering to all clinical and corporate governance procedures and policies.

The consultant will contribute to the quality agenda by representing their team at relevant forums and promoting awareness and understanding of quality improvement.

Quality Improvement

The postholder will:

  1. Lead and manage a team to support a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
  2. Utilize a quality improvement approach to address complex problems, develop change ideas, and test them in practice.
  3. Empower the team to resolve local issues using quality improvement tools and methods.
  4. Promote awareness and understanding of quality improvement and share learning and successes.
General Duties

The consultant will manage, appraise, and provide professional supervision to junior medical staff, ensuring they operate within the parameters of the New Deal and Working Time Directive.

The postholder will participate in service and business planning, attend academic programs, and maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council and Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval.

They will also participate in annual job plan reviews and work with local managers to ensure efficient service running and share with consultant colleagues in medical contributions to management.

External Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

The Trust supports the involvement of the consultant body in regional and national groups, subject to discussion and approval with the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer.
