Job Overview

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity to become a part of the community X-ray team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Lead Radiographic Specialist.

The ideal candidate will be expected to deliver clinical proficiency in plain film imaging, providing support to community Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, and student Radiographers. In this role, you will also serve as an immediate line manager, create weekly schedules, investigate incidents, and assist with leave requests, among other essential responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will oversee the management, coordination, and delivery of exceptional radiographic services.

Core duties include:

  • Function independently to plan, organize, coordinate, and manage radiographic services, adapting strategies as necessary.
  • Remain an integral member of the clinical radiography team, performing a comprehensive range of radiographic tasks to the required standards.
  • Engage in Continued Professional Development (CPD) to uphold the specialized knowledge and skills necessary for both unit management and clinical radiography. Identify personal training and development needs through performance reviews.
  • Organize and oversee preventative maintenance and repairs for all equipment related to the service, and in case of equipment failure, initiate corrective actions while maintaining service continuity whenever feasible.
  • Develop and implement induction and orientation programs for new staff, providing mentorship and leadership on a daily basis.
  • Collaborate with the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), health and safety representatives, and other Lead Radiographers to ensure a secure environment for all personnel and patients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team involved in service provision and communicate effectively across professional boundaries.
  • Actively engage in the recruitment and selection of radiographic personnel.
  • Ensure all equipment meets national performance standards.
  • Participate in strategic planning and organization for future service delivery.
  • Conduct staff appraisals and promote staff development actively.
  • Manage the ordering, receipt, and maintenance of radiographic supplies.
  • Oversee the selection, procurement, and commissioning of specialized radiographic equipment.
  • Contribute to the unit's cost improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of financial controls and optimize resource utilization.
  • Supervise radiographic workloads, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with National, Trust, and Unit policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and review clear working practices and policies, providing guidance to all staff.
  • Actively participate in and lead staff meetings to disseminate information, present new ideas, and support staff through transformational changes.
  • Monitor attendance and absence in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Collect and analyze radiographic quality statistics to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards.
  • Record and oversee the allocation of annual leave for radiographic staff.

Required Qualifications

  • DCR (R) or BSc (Hons) in diagnostic radiography.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Supervisory management Certificate or equivalent.
