Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a Faculty position in the College of Agriculture at Virginia State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, and extension activities in the College of Agriculture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach up to 18 credit hours per academic semester in-person, online, or through synchronous or asynchronous modalities.
  • Provide regular office hours to meet student needs and promote student success.
  • Conduct research and extension activities in the College of Agriculture.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching and research strategies.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to achieve departmental and institutional goals.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in the specific teaching field or a Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the teaching field and/or relevant industry experience.
  • PhD preferred.
  • Proficiency to teach courses in agriculture, family & consumer science, textiles, apparel, dietetics, hospitality management, and agriculture research.
  • Effective and engaging teaching skills.
  • Extensive training and hands-on experience in applied and basic research, experimental design and implementation, laboratory experiments and field trials, data collection and statistical analysis, effective communication skills in both verbal and written English.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student and faculty population.
  • Proficiency and willingness to adapt new and emerging pedagogies in both a formal or non-formal classroom.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD preferred.
  • Prior teaching/research/extension experience in a higher education environment highly preferred.
  • Certification specific to teaching/research/extension highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
