Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychotherapist with relevant experience to join a small service providing dedicated psychological support for those affected by the abuse that occurred in Islington's children's homes and associated institutions between 1960 and 1995.

This includes providing high-quality psychological assessment and specialist trauma-focused psychological therapy for survivors presenting with complex PTSD or other mental health impacts of their trauma.

Main Duties of the Job

To work as part of a small service providing dedicated psychological support for those affected by the widespread abuse that occurred in Islington's children's homes and associated institutions between 1960 and 1995.

This includes providing psychological assessment and either signposting survivors to appropriate services or providing specialist trauma-focused psychological treatment for those people presenting with complex PTSD or other mental health impacts of their trauma.

Job Responsibilities

The role of the clinical/counselling psychologist will include:

  • Psychological assessment and providing specialist psychological interventions for PTSD and other trauma-related presentations
  • Supervision of assistant psychologists
  • Offering consultation and advice to other professionals
Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence. OR: Post-graduate level training in psychotherapy with evidence of training and expertise in using trauma-focused CBT or EMDR for PTSD and experience in a specialist trauma service.

Desirable

  • Training in supervision of trainee clinical/counselling psychologists
  • Experience and knowledge of two different evidence-based therapies for working with complex trauma
