We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our Engineering Workshops team at GFG. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and complex mechanical spares refurbishment and rotating machinery maintenance services.

The role involves working with a small team of skilled craft persons to deliver high-quality fitting and assembly work, including mill and crane gearbox assemblies, pumps, roll assemblies, and bearing maintenance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support and assistance to the team
  • Carrying out complex mechanical spares refurbishment and rotating machinery maintenance
  • Working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
  • Reading engineering technical assembly and detail drawings
  • Understanding and applying safe working procedures and recognised safety practices

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An apprentice-trained background with an NVQ level 3 in Engineering and a minimum 2 years' experience in technical fitting
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced workshop environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • A methodical approach to work with attention to detail

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including 39 holiday days, a retail discount scheme, and access to free parking. The role operates on a weekend rota basis, with a shift rota premium paid.
