Job Purpose

The Financial Portfolio Analyst role is integral to the operational framework of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Collaborating closely with colleagues from various divisions (including Banking, Finance, Risk Management, Legal Affairs, and Compliance), the Financial Portfolio Analyst supervises the disbursement process and endorses all financial transactions (such as loans, equity investments, grants, etc.). Post-transaction, this role is responsible for managing any necessary amendments to legal agreements between the EBRD and its partners, ensuring that all operational, legal, and credit risks are effectively mitigated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess new and existing financial documentation related to loans, equity, grants, bonds, and hybrid projects to confirm the precision of all financial particulars and adherence to the Bank's policies and procedures within their portfolio.
  • Authorize disbursements while minimizing risks and losses by ensuring that all client obligations, as stipulated in covenants and conditions precedent to disbursement, are fulfilled or appropriately waived.
  • Oversee the internal approval process for waivers, consents, amendments, and notifications, drafting pertinent legal documentation to safeguard the Bank's interests and avert potential defaults.
  • Manage the process of addressing events of default with all relevant counterparties, ensuring that all necessary protocols are followed.
  • Inspire and educate Banking personnel and external clients within established policies and procedures to uphold high standards of work practices and achieve set objectives.
  • In collaboration with senior management, serve as the primary contact for B-lenders and parallel lenders post-signing, managing all loans with an A/B or parallel loan structure to protect the interests of co-financiers and cultivate opportunities for further investments in the Bank's initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to relevant departments regarding specific waivers that may significantly impact particular projects, ensuring that decision-makers are informed of the associated risks.
  • Cultivate specialized knowledge in products, processes, and procedures to become a center of excellence for the benefit of the Bank.
  • Propose modifications to existing policies and procedures to ensure their relevance to current operations and market trends.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • A strong bachelor's degree, preferably in business, finance, or law.
  • Advanced skills in banking, legal, and credit analysis are advantageous.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with banking products, including term loans, revolving credit, trade facilities, syndicated loans, equities, funds, bonds, grants, parallel loans, and guarantees.
  • Proven experience in leading waiver, amendment, and covenant monitoring processes across corporate and banking-related products, along with demonstrated skills in drafting, reviewing, and interpreting both bilateral and co-financed banking legal documentation.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Proficient command of written and spoken English.
  • Strong commercial awareness and orientation.
  • Keen attention to detail, robust analytical capabilities, and effective multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • The capacity to function in an environment with continuously shifting priorities and to resolve conflicts among various stakeholders.
