Senior Psychiatric Consultant

Stevenage, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

ADDITIONAL BENEFIT PACKAGE (terms & conditions apply)

Generous relocation assistance available

We are looking to recruit a Senior Psychiatric Consultant for our Mental Health Urgent Care Centre (MHUCC).

This innovative service is part of the Acute & Unplanned care pathway, established in response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially known as Diversion Hubs, this initiative was designed to redirect psychiatric patients away from emergency departments and acute hospitals during a time of heightened service demand and infection risk. The service aims to provide compassionate support to individuals in crisis, recognizing that their needs are often not best addressed in emergency settings.

Patients will be assessed and referred to MHUCC from emergency departments if they are willing and able. The service is available 24/7, accepting direct referrals from various sources including ambulance services, law enforcement, and walk-ins. MHUCC operates as a 'mental health emergency department', delivering prompt emergency responses for mental health liaison services across the Trust, based at a designated facility.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Deliver expert clinical assessments for patients with complex mental health needs.
  • Oversee the initiation of treatment plans for service users awaiting mental health admission.
  • Regularly review the needs of service users waiting for admission and adjust management plans accordingly.
  • Support multi-agency management of frequent users of acute services.
  • Collaborate with local general hospitals and their mental health liaison teams to facilitate appropriate patient diversion.
  • Engage with partner organizations to promote integrated working and enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and safety of the service.

About Us

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) is a forward-thinking organization with ambitious goals, aiming to be the premier provider of mental health and specialist learning disability services in the UK.

Despite the current challenges facing the NHS, this is an exciting time to join HPFT, especially following our Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation to deliver the highest standards of care to our service users and communities.
