About this Opportunity

The Cloud Platform team is on a mission to create a next-generation technical platform for Lloyds Banking Group, a key component of the UK's largest financial services transformation. We're seeking a Product Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our Cloud SRE team within the Cloud Platform.

The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to be part of an ambitious team driving our tech modernisation agenda and enabling Lloyds Banking Group to become a leading fintech in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical conversations with customers and consumers of varying technical backgrounds, including Product, Engineering, Senior Management, and other domain experts.
  • Identify and take ownership of shortcomings and deliver improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures to deliver customer-focused outcomes.
  • Work in cross-functional environments with software engineers, quality engineers, infrastructure engineers, and security engineers.
  • Define, deliver, and adapt best practices to meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches available within the Group and the industry.
  • Provide education and mentorship on devops and site reliability topics to support different teams and drive upskilling.
  • Develop standards, policies, designs, and other collateral.

Expected Activities

  • Monitoring & Alerting: Implement continued enhancements to drive improvements for Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time To Resolve (MTTR).
  • Automating Release Management: Automate Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), integrate, and automate non-functional testing to accelerate deployment frequency and lead time.
  • Operational Service: Participate in production support rotations for the lab, alongside development engineers, and contribute to blameless post-mortems and implement root cause fixes.
  • Automating Toil: Remove manual tasks required to operate the product.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform, Chef, or Ansible.
  • A strong DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering background and knowledge of DevOps best practices.
  • Experience in building CI/CD pipelines to deliver changes incrementally to production.
  • Experience in day-to-day administration of Deploy and Release lifecycle activities.
  • Strong familiarity with source code repositories, particularly Git.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or others (AWS, Azure), and OpenShift.
  • Experience with containers, orchestration, and service mesh, such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio.
  • Experience or exposure to networks, such as F5 and Firewalls.
