We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team at Kensington Mortgage Company. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for manually underwriting and approving residential and buy-to-let mortgage applications in accordance with our lending policy, TCF principles, and FCA responsible lending best practice.
Key Responsibilities- Manually underwrite and approve mortgage applications, ensuring all cases are thoroughly reviewed and documented.
- Act as a liaison between underwriting and other areas of the business, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Ensure all correspondence, including references and valuations, is in line with our lending policy and mortgage products.
- Act fairly and reasonably in all dealings with intermediaries, solicitors, and valuers, adhering to TCF and responsible lending principles.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including NBA Buddy, to support their development and increase their knowledge in their role.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to performance and process, working closely with managers and other areas of the business.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an Underwriter in prime and specialist lending, with a mandate of £250k or more.
- Detailed understanding of the mortgage intermediary market and related FCA permissions.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, proactivity, and a strong work ethic, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of TCF, responsible lending, and regulatory requirements applicable to the role.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple underwriting functions.
- Recent experience in niche buy-to-let lending, including HMOs, light refurbishment, and multi-unit properties.
- Second charge lending experience.
- CeMAP qualification.
