Job Title: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Job Location: Acorn School, Winkleigh (EX19)
Salary: Between £32,000 and £39,407.31 based on a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, working 42 weeks annually.
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time only
As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, your week will be dynamic and impactful. Each day begins with a morning briefing, where you will share updates and learn about the positive contributions of your colleagues. Your responsibilities will include conducting individual sessions with students, facilitating group activities, or engaging in classroom support. Your role is crucial in enhancing the lives of children and young individuals facing Social, Emotional, or Mental Health challenges, including those who have experienced trauma, are on the Autism spectrum, or have ADHD.
In addition to direct support, you will mentor and supervise less experienced speech and language therapists, sharing your expertise with university students and contributing to the development of training programs for the wider team. You will also have designated time to enhance your clinical and mentoring skills while receiving your own clinical supervision.
Administrative tasks are part of the role, but you will have the flexibility to manage these responsibilities from home during school holidays, allowing you to focus on your interactions with students during term time.
Key Responsibilities of a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist:
- Employing a trauma-informed approach in your clinical practice, working with a manageable caseload of pupils with diverse Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, Learning disabilities, and Autism through individualized support, classroom involvement, and group sessions.
- Participating actively in the admissions process for new students, including assisting in the creation of pen portraits.
- Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to provide optimal support for our pupils, which includes working alongside creative art therapists, educators, and teaching assistants, and participating in team meetings that may involve supervision, training, or project involvement.
- Maintaining accurate records and fulfilling administrative duties associated with the role, with the opportunity to work from home during school breaks to ensure these tasks do not interfere with student engagement.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- A recognized Degree in Speech and Language Therapy, along with HCPC Registration and membership in the Royal College of Speech and Language.
- Significant experience in the field of Speech and Language Therapy.
- Confidence and willingness to conduct supervisions and provide training to fellow therapists.
- Proficient IT skills, with a basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- A valid driving license, as occasional offsite meetings may require travel.
Benefits Offered:
- Holidays: Work during term time for 42 weeks, with paid annual leave covering an additional 5.6 weeks.
- Pension Scheme: Contributions of 5% from you, with an additional 3% from the employer.
- Learning & Development Opportunities: Access to comprehensive professional development programs.
- Discounts: Enjoy exclusive discounts through the Blue Light Card and employee benefits platform.
- Wellbeing Support: Prioritizing your mental health with access to support services, including confidential check-ins and group reflective practice sessions.
- Cycle2Work: A scheme allowing you to purchase a bicycle at a discounted rate.
- DBS: The cost of the enhanced DBS check required for this role will be covered.
After completing 12 months of service, you will also be eligible for our Medicash scheme, which covers various medical, health, and wellbeing expenses, including immediate access to a GP. Life assurance is provided at double your annual salary.
We are committed to a diverse workforce and fostering an inclusive environment for all team members, ensuring everyone can bring their authentic selves to work without fear of discrimination.
