Lead Backend Software Engineer / Developer (Java Generative AI)

We are seeking a highly skilled Java technologist with experience in working on cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence to join our team as a Lead Backend Software Engineer.

As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will collaborate with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to design and implement the underlying application layer, exposing and encapsulating fundamental Generative AI capabilities.

You will act as an AI champion within the wider technology team, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements and providing mentoring to other engineers as a valued member of our tech community.

About the Role

  • Design and implement the underlying application layer to expose and encapsulate fundamental Generative AI capabilities
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to introduce cutting-edge AI technology
  • Act as an AI champion within the wider technology team, keeping up with the latest advancements
  • Provide mentoring to other engineers as a valued member of the company's tech community

Requirements

  • Commercial experience of working with AI, with a demonstrable interest in Generative AI concepts
  • Strong backend web development experience with Java and SpringBoot
  • Technical project leadership and mentoring experience
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, messaging, event sourcing; Kafka would be a plus
  • Test-driven approach, TDD, Agile methodologies and processes
