We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Consultant with extensive academic qualifications and experience in contaminated land and environmental management. This role involves overseeing a dedicated team of junior consultants within our organization.

The ideal candidate will possess relevant expertise and a proactive approach to ensure the team meets the high standards expected by our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide management and guidance to junior consultants and approve major project deliverables.
  • Inspire, lead, and manage the consultancy team to achieve exceptional performance.
  • Deliver training and support to enhance the consultancy skills of team members.
  • Conduct market analysis to uncover new business opportunities and remain informed about industry trends, collaborating with the Sales Manager for implementation.
  • Establish consultancy charge-out targets and develop action plans to achieve them.
  • Work closely with the Compliance Manager to oversee ISO and related environmental standards within the Integrated Management System.
  • Maintain strong technical relationships with clients.
  • Assist in the design and scope of ground investigations.
  • Lead fieldwork activities, including soil logging and environmental sampling and monitoring.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and data collection tasks.
  • Coordinate spill response efforts on-site, ensuring safety and effective clean-up methods.
  • Stay updated with relevant environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform drainage surveys, including CCTV, dye tracing, and verification surveys, while maintaining client communication throughout the process.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, including desk studies, ground investigation reports, and remediation options appraisals.
  • Supervise site work, including intrusive ground investigations and subcontractor management.
  • Analyze and review data.
  • Ensure all work adheres to our established procedures and meets the highest quality, health and safety, and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant field (e.g., geology, engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or similar).
  • Willingness to pursue Chartership with a relevant institution.

Experience

  • Proven experience in preparing Phase 1 contaminated land desk studies.
  • Familiarity with planning, designing, and managing contaminated land and site investigations.
  • Experience in field logging.
  • Basic understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations as they apply to ground investigations.
  • Knowledge of the UK land contamination regime concerning site use, development planning, environmental permitting, and due diligence.
  • Understanding of the risk-based approach to land contamination assessment.
  • Proficient report writing skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Management experience is desirable.
