Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Nurse to join our Emergency Care team within a Community Hospital setting. This role offers the potential for professional growth, including opportunities to advance to Band 7 upon successful completion of designated competencies, including non-medical prescribing.

Professional Development

This position is governed by the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20, which facilitates the development of professional roles. Upon completing an agreed set of competencies, you may progress to the next pay band without needing to apply for a higher-level position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver autonomous care in diagnosing, treating, and discharging patients with minor injuries and illnesses, adhering to established trust protocols.
  • Assist the department manager in effectively managing resources and take charge of the minor injury unit in their absence.
  • Exemplify compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a collaborative leadership culture within the organization. This involves engaging, enabling, and empowering team members, utilizing coaching to encourage ownership of learning and quality improvement, and promoting teamwork across departments.

Job Duties

  • Develop advanced clinical assessment skills to evaluate patient needs effectively.
  • Triage patients based on clinical urgency, initiating treatment plans in accordance with trust guidelines and protocols under supervision.
  • Cultivate the ability to work independently, assessing individual patient requirements, initiating investigations, determining differential diagnoses, and implementing appropriate holistic, evidence-based treatment and care.
  • Provide senior nursing support regarding operational matters.
  • Serve as a role model for compassionate and inclusive leadership, promoting a collective leadership culture within the trust.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with NMC (1st Level)
  • Recognized teaching qualification (PP126/127)
  • Training in minor injuries and illnesses
  • Completion of mandatory training as required by the trust
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent (to be completed within 18 months of appointment)

Essential Experience

  • Previous post-registration experience
  • Experience in emergency care settings
