Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Manager to oversee, mentor, and enhance the commercial teams throughout your project portfolio.
  • Foster a culture of commercial awareness and integrate best practices within each project team.
  • Take charge of all contractual issues from initiation to completion, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of contracts and their impact on profitability.
  • Assist in the formulation of contract documentation, including bills of quantities, specifications, and drawings.
  • Manage the Risk & Opportunities process to identify potential risks and opportunities during both tender and construction phases, ensuring the Commercial function provides contractual solutions that effectively balance these elements.
  • Establish and oversee budgets, ensuring accurate allocation of costs into the appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Develop and maintain detailed project life cycle cost forecasts, updated monthly and monitored against set targets.
  • Proactively ensure the documentation of all contractual entitlements, facilitating timely notifications of events and precise pricing and substantiation of changes.
  • Implement and uphold stringent cost control measures, including early warning systems, and deliver accurate financial data and management reports for each project through the monthly reporting cycle, including Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Provide procurement assistance to guarantee that each project is executed safely, on schedule, at minimal cost, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Ensure all procurement expenditures are validated by the operational delivery team and appropriately categorized within the budget necessary for project delivery.
  • Achieve contractually agreed cash flow and ensure all Applications for Payment (AFP) are submitted and assessed according to contractual timelines.
  • Guarantee that all legitimate Supply Chain payments are processed in accordance with the relevant supplier agreements.
  • Negotiate and resolve contractual disputes and finalize accounts within designated authority levels.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Membership in a relevant professional organization (e.g., RICS).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Quantity Surveyor role.
Education:
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Quantity Surveyor position.
  • Demonstrated success in managing the commercial aspects of construction projects.
  • Experience in cost planning, procurement, and contract management.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong grasp of construction contracts and procurement methodologies.
  • Exceptional numerical and analytical abilities.
  • Proficient in relevant software applications (e.g., CostX, Microsoft Excel).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Postgraduate qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Chartered status with RICS or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
  • Office-based with necessary site visits.
  • Standard working hours with potential overtime to meet project deadlines.
  • Collaboration with project managers, architects, and subcontractors is expected.
