Established in 2017, London Play Design is a non-profit Community Interest Company and social enterprise that focuses on enhancing community play areas throughout London. Our mission is to promote children's play by creating vibrant, safe, and engaging environments for families. We prioritize innovative design, active community participation, and sustainable practices in all our projects.
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Project Supervisor to oversee our community play space initiatives. This role involves managing the construction, upkeep, and repairs of community play areas, including adventure playgrounds.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in engineering, carpentry, construction, or similar fields.
- Proven track record in enforcing health and safety regulations in relevant environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Experience in leading a small team and delegating tasks effectively.
- Personable, dependable, punctual, and a collaborative team player.
- Competence in basic software applications (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional or academic credentials in engineering, carpentry, construction, or related disciplines.
- Additional training or certifications pertinent to the role.
- Familiarity with adventure play and/or playwork principles.
- Understanding of play safety standards and/or play area design.
- Valid driving license and willingness to operate a van.
- Experience or knowledge of the non-profit sector.
- Familiarity with social media platforms.
- Experience with 3D design software (e.g., Google SketchUp, Rhino).
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Assessment and Planning:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of play areas to determine their condition and identify necessary construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Analyze play safety reports and risk assessments from external sources.
- Create detailed risk assessments, method statements, and project plans for construction and maintenance activities.
- Project Management:
- Formulate project plans outlining timelines, budgets, and resource requirements.
- Collaborate with the operational manager regarding materials and logistics.
- Oversee carpenters and engineers while also engaging in hands-on tasks.
- Team Leadership:
- Guide a small team of project staff and corporate volunteers.
- Ensure clarity of roles and project objectives among team members to achieve successful outcomes.
- Volunteer Coordination:
- Organize, execute, and assess volunteer engagement days.
- Conduct volunteer orientations, provide clear instructions, and uphold health and safety standards.
- Supervise activities to ensure a safe working environment for volunteers.
- Development Planning:
- Implement technical components of LPD's development strategies to redesign, repair, and maintain adventure playgrounds across various boroughs.
- Quality Control and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all projects adhere to quality and safety regulations.
- Community Involvement:
- Engage with local communities to gather insights on their needs and preferences, ensuring projects are beneficial and reflective of community interests.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain thorough records of project developments.
- Provide regular updates to the line manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Complete project reports and manage receipts.
- Handle administrative tasks required by LPD's various departments.
- Policy Implementation:
- Enforce LPD's policies and procedures, including health & safety, data protection, and financial management.
- Collaboration and Joint Management:
- Coordinate with the line manager and colleagues.
- Jointly manage company resources such as premises, vehicles, assets, and tools.
