About the Role
Fawkes & Reece is seeking a highly skilled Quantity Surveyor to join their team in a commercial expert capacity. As a key member of the Commercial, Estimating and Buying team, you will be responsible for delivering cost control and financial reporting duties across all aspects of construction work undertaken by the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend design meetings to advise on cost implications and provide expert guidance on budgeting and financial planning.
- Collaborate with the development team to ensure accurate and efficient budgeting and cost control processes.
- Conduct thorough reviews of contract drawings to identify potential errors, omissions, and areas of unnecessary cost.
- Prepare and distribute design information packages and tender drawings, including preliminary checks on subcontractors.
- Develop and maintain construction cost analysis, including analysis of quotations and tender responses.
- Arrange and adjudicate budget settlement meetings with the support of the wider Commercial team.
- Prepare stage payment schedules to facilitate financing of construction projects.
- Conduct pre-order meetings to finalize tender sums and agree stage payment schedules, preparing all contract documentation and placing orders.
- Place subcontractor orders, including interviews and reference checks, and negotiate contract sums within budget.
- Issue variation orders and development changes, providing cost advice on major variations prior to issue.
- Verify and reconcile all costs posted to each contract, collate and reconcile costs resulting from subcontract works, variation orders, site instructions, material orders, and preliminary/running costs.
- Arrange subcontractor payments, agree final accounts, and analyze costs to inform future estimates.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have previous experience managing budgets on multiple volume housing developments from inception through to completion. Key skills and qualifications include:
- A thorough understanding of surveying and estimating, with a specific and in-depth knowledge of preparing realistic construction budgets.
- A good understanding of strategic objectives and targeting financial return, with the ability to understand and manipulate complex financial models.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, with proficient use of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with procure-to-pay/cost reporting and document storage systems, such as COINS or Agresso.
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, such as HNC/HND/Degree.
