Key Responsibilities:

Deliver a specialized service to children in mainstream schools who have Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), collaborating closely with parents and educational staff to enhance children's communication skills and academic engagement. Assess, develop, and implement tailored Speech and Language Therapy interventions for children referred to our service. Provide expert guidance to parents and educators regarding the management of children with communication challenges. Maintain accountability for professional actions, recognizing personal boundaries and seeking senior advice when necessary. Offer supervision and peer review support to junior colleagues and students, including providing second opinions as required. Conduct in-service training for school staff independently. Exhibit advanced skills in a specific area of SLCN, addressing the diverse communication needs of school-aged children. Collaborate with a variety of statutory and non-statutory agencies to support children's needs.

Professional Expectations:

Assess and implement Speech and Language Therapy interventions for children facing a variety of communication difficulties. Analyze different communication modalities and devise strategies to enhance communicative effectiveness across various environments. Make informed clinical decisions based on assessments, utilizing evidence-based practices to ensure effective treatment. Conduct differential diagnoses grounded in assessment evidence. Demonstrate clinical effectiveness through the application of evidence-based practices and relevant outcome measures. Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

Degree and professional license from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists. Current registration with HCPC and RCSLT.

Experience:

Essential:

Proven experience in supporting children, families, and educational institutions in accordance with relevant legislation. Collaborative experience with parents and multidisciplinary teams. Experience in training and mentoring others.

Desirable:

Interest in developing a clinical specialization in educational settings. Experience in supervising and supporting junior staff and students.

Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:

Strong teamwork and conflict resolution skills. Sensitivity to diverse needs and issues. Excellent communication and organizational abilities. Comprehensive understanding of child development milestones and communication needs. Familiarity with relevant educational policies and practices. Awareness of cultural and linguistic factors affecting service delivery. Knowledge of professional standards for record-keeping and audit principles. Ability to manage a caseload independently while supporting junior staff.
