Position: Housing Law Solicitor

We are seeking committed and skilled Solicitors to join a prestigious law firm in a permanent capacity.

About the Housing Department:

The Housing team, highly rated in The Legal 500 directory, provides expert assistance to landlords and tenants on various housing matters. Their experienced practitioners excel in resolving housing disputes efficiently. The firm offers lawyer-supported dispute resolution and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) for housing disrepair issues. Additionally, they frequently represent clients in court for unlawful eviction, possession proceedings, and prepare judicial review applications for homelessness cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Department Director.
  • Exhibit a professional, proactive approach with strong client care skills and a compassionate understanding of client needs.
  • Manage all aspects of Housing work, providing technical expertise and guidance to team members when necessary.
  • Handle a diverse caseload with varying complexities.
  • Assist with casework involving public and private housing issues, including homelessness, disrepair, eviction, possession, property ownership disputes, succession for tenants, and neighborhood problems, while also conducting your own advocacy.
  • Engage with clients, gather instructions, and prepare cases.
  • Manage correspondence effectively.
  • Maintain precise time costing procedures.
  • Implement recommendations from monthly file reviews promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with file management protocols.

Essential Skills:

  • Possess a clean, valid Practicing Certificate at the time of application.
  • Demonstrate commitment as a team player and adaptability to new challenges.
  • Have previous supervisory experience and a track record of meeting key performance indicators.
  • Exhibit professionalism with a proactive approach, excellent client care skills, and the ability to handle sensitive client matters effectively.
  • Possess strong networking and communication skills to successfully promote the firm and generate new business.
  • Show excellent analytical and organizational capabilities.
  • Utilize initiative and sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Have a working knowledge of publicly funded housing work and the ability to manage privately funded cases.
  • Bring extensive experience in housing-related legal work.
  • Advocacy experience is advantageous.
  • Demonstrate excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and document management.
