About the Role

This position is focused on offensive security testing and validation of Elsevier's platform and network controls to protect against unauthorized access, breach, or exploitation.

The core responsibility of this role will be achieved through proactive protection of the Elsevier brand through security application testing, security control validation, and emulation of tactics used by bad actors to compromise or breach security measures across the entire technology footprint.

Key Responsibilities
  • Security Defect Mitigation: Performing security defect mitigation testing and ensuring documented results support remediation efforts.
  • Incident Analysis: Analyzing chronic incidents, abnormal usage, and attack patterns, and tuning security telemetry for risk identification, including misuse, fraud, and theft of services.
  • Automation and Scripting: Developing and maintaining scripts to automate cybersecurity tasks and processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contributing to the continuous improvement of the organization's security practices and policies.
  • Penetration Testing: Conducting and documenting comprehensive penetration testing (manual and automated) of software and technology across web and cloud environments, including static and dynamic code and system configuration security tests.
  • Vulnerability Assessment: Identifying and assessing vulnerability and exploitation risks, developing mitigation and detection methods.
Requirements
  • Secure Coding Practices: Experience of secure coding practices, applications security testing tools and techniques (SAST, DAST), and API Security testing.
  • Cloud and Networking: Be able to understand cloud and networking, web-based content delivery platforms, and filesystem operation, architecture, patching, and security.
  • Emerging Threats: Be able to identify emerging threats, conduct risk assessments, and leverage security intelligence tools.
  • Certifications: Possess CISSP, CISM, SANS, GIAC, CCH, or related credential for ethical hacking/penetration tester certification, and/or security risk assessment certification.
  • Scripting Languages: Be able to use Python, Bash, and/or other Scripting Languages and automation tools for Security testing and management.
  • Testing and Remediation: Be able to propose, scope, conduct, report, and remediate manual and automation testing.
