Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking passionate and committed paediatric nurses to join our dynamic team across various units, including our acute inpatient unit, paediatric daycase unit, and paediatric assessment unit. Opportunities for rotation among these areas are available.

This is a pivotal moment to become part of our paediatric team as we expand and enhance our services. Our team is at the forefront of developing virtual wards, and a new team structure is fostering innovative collaboration.

Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive development package and the chance to be an integral part of our team. We provide a tailored induction program for newly qualified staff, alongside the Walsall Trust preceptorship initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Paediatric Unit

Band 5 Staff Nurses -

Rotational opportunities may include:

  • Ward 21: A 21-bed unit dedicated to the care of medical, surgical, and high-dependency patients.
  • Paediatric Assessment Unit: Located within a state-of-the-art Urgent Emergency Care Centre, catering to patients aged 0-16 years.
  • Paediatric Daycase Unit: Providing care for elective surgical patients under the ENT, Surgical, and Trauma teams, as well as facilitating elective MRI scans.

We are in search of experienced, enthusiastic, and driven paediatric nurses who can work independently and collaboratively to uphold the high standards of care we are known for.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the NMC Code and Trust Policies regarding confidentiality.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Maintain high standards in record-keeping.
  • Demonstrate competent clinical practice.
  • Be accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care independently.
  • Identify and address the psychological, social, physical, and cultural needs of children and their families.
  • Prioritize and organize workload effectively.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and possess knowledge of relevant hospital IT systems.
  • Utilize analytical and judgmental skills to engage in collaborative decision-making within the nursing team.
  • Partner with patients and their caregivers in decision-making processes, ensuring their perspectives are valued.
  • Recognize personal limitations in practice, guided by the NMC Code of Conduct and Trust Policies.
  • Understand the effective management of both financial and physical resources.
  • Familiarize with the incident reporting system and actively work to mitigate risks.
  • Deliver safe, high-quality, and effective care.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and all members of the multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver care.
  • Be open to change and engage in initiatives that promote service improvement.
  • Adhere to national benchmarks for standards of good practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Paediatric Nurse with current NMC registration.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Paediatric BLS certification.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Willingness to pursue further clinical skills training.

Desirable

  • PILS certification.
  • IV competency.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an acute paediatric nursing environment.
